Dress for Comfort, Not Just Style
While there is no strict legal "dress code" for a **desert safari** beyond the general public decency laws of the UAE, choosing the right outfit can make or break your experience. The desert environment is extreme—hot during the day, cool at night, and always sandy.
Recommended Attire
For Men: Loose-fitting linen or cotton trousers, shorts (knee-length), and breathable t-shirts or shirts. Light colors reflect the sun and keep you cooler.
For Women: Comfort is key. Loose trousers, leggings, or long skirts are great. Avoid very short skirts or dresses as they can be uncomfortable during camel riding or sitting on traditional low cushions (Majlis). Sleeveless tops are fine, but carrying a light shawl is smart for modesty and warmth in the evening.
The Footwear Question: Sandals vs. Shoes?
This is the most common question! Sandals or flip-flops are generally best because they allow your feet to breathe, and sand is easy to shake out. However, if you plan on doing sandboarding or extensive walking, lightweight sneakers can provide better stability. Avoid high heels at all costs—sinking into the sand is guaranteed!
Don't Forget These Accessories
- Sunglasses: Essential for protecting your eyes from glare and blowing sand.
- Sun Hat/Cap: Vital for daytime/morning safaris to prevent heatstroke.
- Light Jacket: In winter months (Nov-March), the desert drops significantly in temperature after sunset.
